Structured lessons and self-directed study.

Duolingo provides a sequence of lessons. In LingoBite, you choose a video or book and use translations and word lookup to work through it. LingoBite has no complete beginner curriculum.

Duolingo gives you a lesson path. LingoBite gives you a place to work through the videos and books you choose.

## Where Duolingo is stronger

Duolingo is stronger at giving you a next step: a course, short exercises and a ready-made daily routine. Its Practice tab now gives free learners more ways to revisit lessons. Its speaking activities also cover something LingoBite does not assess. For a beginner who wants structure, those are substantial advantages. [1] [2] [3]

## The next lesson or the next interesting sentence

Duolingo’s course and practice activities give learners a ready-made routine. LingoBite starts with choosing material, then helps with subtitles, translations, lookup, and saving. It does not offer a complete beginner curriculum. A course can be a useful foundation before, or alongside, this kind of independent study. [1]

## Both make room for review

Duolingo’s Practice tab includes skill practice and ways to revisit course content; its current announcement makes practice available to free learners. LingoBite’s reviews draw on saved language and sentence exposure. The distinction is what feeds your practice, rather than whether either product has review. [1]

## Conversation is a separate strength

Duolingo offers Video Call and Roleplay. Its Q2 2026 update says most new Super subscribers also have Video Call, so older Max-only comparisons are incomplete. Availability still needs checking for your account. LingoBite has contextual AI explanations but no comparable speaking partner or pronunciation assessment. [3]

## Plans and cost

Duolingo has a free offering and paid Super and Max subscriptions. Features and offers vary. Compare the plan for your language and device instead of assuming every learner sees the same package. [3]

## Which fits your routine?

### Choose LingoBite if…
- You already have videos or books you want to understand.
- You want saved vocabulary connected to its original context.
- You want to choose the material and pace of each session.

### Choose Duolingo if…
- You want a clear starting point and a sequence of lessons.
- Short exercises and game mechanics help you return.
- You want speaking activities within a course.

Duolingo can provide the course; LingoBite can help with videos and books you want to study alongside it.

## Sources and scope

Written by LingoBite using official sources, not a hands-on evaluation of paid features. LingoBite descriptions reflect its current browser implementation. Personal books stay on the importing device. Subtitle, translation and AI tools depend on source and service availability. These comparisons do not measure learning outcomes.
